The city of lights, the city of love… Photographed countless times in countless ways. Here’s mine.
I almost didn’t get these photos. Sweet friends were kind enough to let me join them on a trip they’d planned to Paris, already planning on meeting up with friends from different points of their lives. (I thought the invite came out of the blue and later realized my adorable husband floated the idea when I was out of earshot.) As the trip neared, I panicked about the cost involved and tried to back out, to sell my airfare to someone else. It didn’t work out to do so, so instead of canceling outright, I shortened my trip from several days to about two. I’ve never been so happy for something to “not work out”. Those two days in Paris were absolutely magical. So often when I travel, I don’t take a lot of photos, because I sometimes find it liberating to leave the camera behind and see the world directly with my eyes rather than through a viewfinder. In this case, I am so very glad I took the photos I did, because 2 days went by in a blur, as you can imagine, but these photos help me remember it all so clearly.
While not commissioned work, the photography of architecture and art, the documentation of a city (broadly and in detail), and a further look at my style and inspiration, is worth inclusion in this portfolio.
